Mama Makena.
Mama Makena was unable to read for most of her adult life due to the lack of access to vision care. She simply needed a pair of reading glasses to allow her to read and was very excited to read her pocket Bible once again.
Layla.
Layla is an orphan girl who was with the orphanage since it began. She had the opportunity to attend college thanks to a very generous donor who sponsored her education. She recently graduated from college and will now practice law at the government.
Jabari.
Jabari came to Eye Camp #5 with signs of trauma to his right eye. He was hit in the eye by the handlebar of a motorcycle taxi while walking to school a few days earlier. His family did not have the means to even transport him to the hospital at the cost of $2. He was examined at the camp, provided antibiotics and transported to the hospital for emergency surgery. He recovered well and has regained vision in his eye.
Nia.
Nia is a young girl with albinism who was not able to see properly making simple movements difficult, such as picking up an object. It was determined that she was suffering from photophobia, an eye condition linked to albinism which causes an increased sensitivity to light. She was provided with dark coloured sunglasses to not only allow her to see properly but also protect her eyes from long term damage.
